About our Day Nurseries
Little Green Rascals is a children’s day nursery that opened in York in July 2009. It was the first fully organic day nursery in the North of England and has been awarded the Soil Association's Gold Catering Mark for the last 6 years.
We are OFSTED registered and our staff are key in helping us deliver exceptional childcare – we are fortunate to have a wealth of expertise with Early Years professionals working for us, as well as degree level and level 3 qualified staff. We invest wholeheartedly in our staff, supporting and encouraging them to learn and grow by providing them with up-to-date training and advice.
We care for up to 118 children per day in our private nursery school. With ages ranging from, from birth in our delightful Wiggly Worms baby room, through to 5-year-olds in our Pre-School Little Green Rascals. Not only do we offer exceptional childcare in wonderful surroundings we also pioneer the Forest School ethos with our own private woodland and qualified Forest School Practitioners.
Our focus on all things “green” is not only based on the food that we put into menus being certified organic but every aspect of the nursery must have an eco-friendly element as environmental awareness is at the very heart of what we do. Our staff uniforms are organic cotton, and our stationery is eco friendly – these are just some examples of how we try to minimise our environmental impact and how we encourage the health and well-being of our rascals.
Since opening we have been nominated for a host of awards and accolades in recognition of our hard work and commitment. These include winning NDNA Best Nursery in the North of England 2016, Green Nursery of the Year 2016, Gold Catering Mark with the Soil Association, Silver Spoons Local Hero and the York Evening Press Buisness Awards Employer of the Year 2016. Vanessa Warn, Little Green Rascals' owner, has also been recognised for her entrepreneurialism by winning the York Evening Press Business Accelerator Competition (The York Equivalent of BBC2’s Dragon’s Den), Personality of the Year, and has also been invited to the board of the Soil Association Catering Group to ensure a voice for nurseries and the care of young children is heard.
