Set in a farmhouse, nestled in trees and open farmland we benefit from having huge adventure gardens, outdoor classrooms and lots and lots of space! The farmhouse itself boasts 420 sq m space and is home to four rooms which take your child on a learning journey from birth and through their developmental stages to pre-school.
Each room is designed specifically for the age range they care for and careful thought and planning is applied to ensure that not only do we follow the seven areas of learning and development of the EYFS but that the rooms are warm, welcoming and inspiring too. We have home corners, small world areas, role play settings, malleable play and construction zones as well as quiet, comfy corners for a sleep or snuggle.
Our organic food is prepared in-house by our chefs, featuring herbs and vegetables from our kitchen gardens. We have one meat-free day per week, and encourage our children to try new ingredients such as liver, fish, beetroot and olives. Our nappies, creams and ointments all remain organic or ethically sourced. Where possible, we use and suggest homeopathic remedies, before administering creams and ointments that would contain a minimal amount of chemicals. The physical and mental wellbeing of each individual child is of paramount importance to us here at Little Green Rascals. That’s why we recognise that a good snuggle can help to settle any child when they are not with their parents’. It is also why our Rascals have daily access to our extensive gardens, where they can ride bicycles and scooters, play in the mud kitchens and learn in the great outdoors.
Our outdoor space is home to our chickens and guinea pigs and has its own areas of play, such as our mud kitchens, musical instruments, willow tunnels and large wooden play apparatus. Our aim is to have our rascals outdoor come rain or shine – wellies or suncream – you can feel confident that your rascal will have plenty of fresh air and exercise and will have lots of stories to tell you of their adventures whilst at nursery.
Winn Wood is our own private woodland and is home to our Forest School. Our Forest School is a huge part of everyday life at Little Green Rascals, where up to 12 children attend a planned session in a secure and magical location. The sessions may include a hunt for fairies, a bug safari or even building a den and a campfire lunch – whatever the activity, you can be assured that your rascal will have a wonderful time.
We send a weekly communication email to each parent including a little snapshot of our week and some important information.
History of Dunnington Lodge
The history of the building is such that in early March 1945 (nearing the end of the 2nd World War), whilst the building was home to Farmer Richard Moll and his family of five – it was hit by the last German aircraft to crash on British soil during the war.
A German Junkers JU88 had set its sights on French 347 Squadron Halifax, returning to RAF Elvington but the attack was foiled and the pilot reached safety – this did not stop the German and he continued his attack – clipping a tree and crashing in Dunnington Lodge. Devastatingly only two of the Moll family survived the attack. This gives Vanessa and Ben (the current custodians of the property) even more desire to ensure it is maintained and loved and gives a warm, family feel to all those who enter it.
